Laura Jane Strickland Richardson (born 1963) is a Lieutenant General in the United States Army and commander of the North American Army. She previously served as Deputy Commander of the United States Army Command. As an Army aviator, Richardson flew a Sikorsky UH-60 Black her Hawk helicopter. Promoted to brigadier general in 2011, she held various commands at Fort Hood and served as chief of staff for communications for the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. In June 2017, she was promoted to lieutenant general and appointed deputy commander of the United States Army Command (FORSCOM). Richardson served as FORSCOM’s deputy commander from October 2018 until March 2019. In April 2019, she was named the first female commander of the North American Army. She took command on her July 8, 2019.
